The photograph shows the Roman Arch of Cabanes standing beside a road, surrounded by cypress trees and cultivated fields. Its surviving opening is clear, but the upper part of the original structure is missing. This is neither a town gate nor an entrance to the natural park.

The arch stood beside the Via Augusta

The Roman monument lies beside the former route of the Via Augusta and is interpreted as a possible private funerary structure. A simple form almost six metres high survives, now incorporated into a CV-157 junction. Its setting requires attention to traffic and use of prepared access without entering fields or the roadway.

The medieval enclosure is read inside the town

The centre retains streets from the former walled enclosure, the Sitjar and San José gateways and fragments incorporated into houses. The town hall, Llotgeta del Mustaçaf, former prison and Baroque San Juan Bautista Church complete a separate route. This group is not around the arch and is better visited as its own walk.

El Prat occupies a wet coastal strip

Prat de Cabanes-Torreblanca Natural Park protects a narrow coastal band of marsh and wetland. Channels, lagoons, shoreline vegetation and migratory birds create a landscape quite unlike the dry farmland around the arch. Signed routes vary in length and cross sensitive habitats, so current regulation and conditions need checking.

This documentary review identifies the arch and separates Roman heritage, town centre and wetland. It does not verify traffic, parking, works, opening, worship, surfaces, flooding, mosquitoes, wildlife sightings, boardwalks, signs or accessibility on site.
