Home help in the Valencian Community: how to request more care hours

The Generalitat provides a form to request more home-help hours for dependency levels II and III. Increasing hours and reviewing a payment use different forms.

Washing, meals or moving around the home may require more support than the allocated care schedule provides. For someone already receiving home help through the Valencian dependency care system, the Generalitat has a specific form for requesting additional hours. Start by checking what their award decision provides and what needs to change.

Home help brings support into the person’s home. The València municipal programme, for example, describes personal, domestic and family support, accessed through the local municipal social services centre. This municipal route needs to be distinguished from the regional dependency procedure and changes to an individual care plan, known as the PIA.

Additional hours and a higher payment serve different purposes

To increase care time, the Generalitat dependency procedure provides a request for additional allocated hours. It is intended for people with dependency levels II and III who already receive the service. The official form, in Spanish and Valencian, also covers a home-help service-linked benefit: in that case, it requests more hours and the corresponding increase in payment. Submitting it requests a change; it does not automatically establish a new care schedule.

To review the payment alone, there is a separate form. Its instructions limit it to service-linked benefits with a contract dated before 31 December 2022. It requires an updated contract with an accredited company to justify the new charge for the recognised hours. It is not a general request for a payment increase for any contract.

If home help has not yet been awarded, the additional-hours form is not the initial access application. Apply for dependency support or request home help as the preferred service. If a PIA already exists and a change to the awarded service is sought, the regional procedure includes a form for new preferences, an extension or a review of the PIA.

Make the need clear in your request

For a social services appointment, it is useful to bring the dependency assessment decision, the PIA and details of current hours. Add the contract if a service-linked benefit is involved. Note which tasks require support and when help is missing: this helps explain the request but does not replace the professional assessment.

The additional-hours form asks for personal details, a separate notification address if needed, and the applicant’s or representative’s signature. A representative or support person must establish their authority to act. The Generalitat procedure accepts applications throughout the year and identifies the register of the municipality where the person is registered as living as the preferred submission route.

When the reply arrives, check the hours and, where applicable, the payment and service conditions set out in the decision. If clarification is needed about how these apply to the everyday schedule, take the decision to the social services team following the case.
