A vacant home in Castelló can join the council’s social rental pool at any time. The permanent scheme links owners or usufruct holders with eligible housing applicants through the Municipal Housing Office.

The home must be in the municipality, unoccupied and free of restrictions preventing rental. It also needs at least 60 square metres of usable space, excluding garages and storage rooms.

Habitability is checked before a tenancy

Council technicians assess the property. It needs an equipped kitchen, complete bathroom, active utilities, energy certificate and satisfactory cleanliness and repair.

Buildings over 50 years old require an evaluation report. The process can begin on joining the pool, but the home cannot be let until the report is obtained.

The land-registry extract must be less than a month old

Owners supply identification, a recent extract and co-owner consent where applicable. Property tax, waste charge, community fees, any mortgage, utilities and home insurance must be current.

Applications are accepted online or at council registries. Housing seekers use a separate applicant process. Update if the rules or minimum property standards change.
