A visit with context

Llocnou de Sant Jeroni is a compact Safor settlement facing the Cuta ridge. A panorama from Almiserà identifies Sant Roc’s bell tower, tiled roofs and the forested mass framing the valley. The image needs an accurate caption because it was taken from the neighbouring municipality: it depicts Llocnou, but the camera position is not inside the village.

Heritage and history

The restored Sant Roc church is the urban landmark documented by the provincial authority. The walk’s interest lies in its small scale and immediate relationship between streets, cultivated land and mountain, not in borrowing major monuments from elsewhere. Sant Jeroni de Cotalba monastery is in Alfauir and may only be suggested as a nearby separate visit, never presented as heritage located within Llocnou.

Pujada a la Font dels Frares climbs through the Cuta environment among woodland and aromatic plants. Check the current course, ascent, spring condition, fire risk and restrictions before setting out. A spring may be dry, while a rural path does not guarantee shade or continuous maintenance. Suitable shoes, enough water and a return before the hottest hours are essential in a small municipality with no services along the trail.

Landscape and route

A balanced itinerary begins at Sant Roc, crosses the centre and observes the agricultural mosaic before attempting only a mountain section suitable for the group. The provincial guide names coques a la calfó, poppy pastries, meat and sausages as local preparations. Ask where and when they are made rather than guaranteeing daily availability. Almiserà, Alfauir and other Vall de Vernissa villages can extend the trip while municipal boundaries remain explicit.

Responsible planning

This guide gives priority to municipal, provincial and regional-government sources. Its links let readers verify the original evidence and identify later changes. Use a current map for the journey and check transport on the day of travel: services to small municipalities can be infrequent, while an old timetable is not proof that a bus or facility still operates.

Distances should be adjusted for mobility, age and temperature. Sloping streets, uneven surfaces and buildings without continuous access can change a route substantially. Anyone requiring step-free access should ask the council or venue a specific question, because describing two places as close does not mean there are no steps. Respect for homes, crops, worship, local events and signs is part of a visit that benefits the community.
