Castillo de Villamalefa: hillside houses, castle remains and Cedramán

The photograph shows Castillo de Villamalefa’s houses climbing towards the hill. Stone walls survive among the homes, while pines and antennas occupy the summit. The Villahermosa River is outside the frame, and not every wall on the slope can be treated as a defensive remain.

The castle was almost completely demolished

Provincial information attributes its demolition to General Espartero and notes that stone was reused in village buildings. Sections of wall, tower bases and traces of a cistern survive above the settlement. Interpretation requires care because the ruins coexist with later construction and current equipment.

San Pedro stands within the village

San Pedro Apóstol parish church is an example of rural Baroque: one nave, simply decorated chapels and a 15th-century processional cross. It is a separate urban stop from the hill and cannot be conclusively identified in this tight view of roofs and slope.

Cedramán brings the route closer to the Villahermosa

The hamlet of Cedramán lies several kilometres north, on the right bank of the Villahermosa River beneath landforms including Peña Parda. The so-called palace associated with the memory of Zeit Abu Zeit survives there. River, settlement and recreation area form a visit separate from the remains above Castillo de Villamalefa.
