Ayódar: Rita and El Turrio fountains, castle and Río Chico

The photograph shows the Rita and El Turrio fountains in a small square in Ayódar. Their names are legible on ceramic panels beneath several trees and beside steps; part of a religious building stands behind. These are neither castle remains nor a pool in Río Chico.

The two fountains form an urban stop

Spouts, stone basins and benches share the same shaded space. The image makes this village corner recognisable, but does not establish whether the water is drinkable or whether the spouts maintain a constant flow. The square is a useful landmark before moving towards outlying routes.

The castle is approached from Fuente Larga

Council route R-6 crosses the bridge, passes Fuente Larga and follows the ravine towards Pozo de Reca before the castle turn-off. Castellón Tourism identifies altered enclosures and a square Muslim-period watchtower there. These are ruins, partly obscured by vegetation and in precarious condition, rather than a restored monument.

Río Chico occupies a different part of the municipality

The Ayódar River, also called Río Chico along this section, runs through rocky countryside close to the settlement and has supported agricultural water use. The Cuchareta route and castle ascent are separate walks: choose between them according to available time, surfaces and river conditions, without treating the photographed square as the signed start of every route.
