The day centre bill still comes every month while a care needs assessment is under way. If you want to stay at the private day centre or care home you already use, you can ask the Valencian government to consider a service-linked care benefit (prestación económica vinculada al servicio). Start by checking that the specific service named in your contract is accredited to provide care under the dependency system.
The benefit is a regular payment towards the service approved in your individual care plan, known locally as the PIA. Article 17 of Spain’s Dependency Act provides for this benefit when suitable public or publicly contracted care is unavailable. Private bills help show what care you receive. The formal decision on your PIA sets out any award and its terms.
What to ask your care provider for before filing
The Valencian government’s care needs application page (procedure 3256) lists a copy of the contract and your three most recent invoices when you ask to stay with an accredited private service. For day or residential care, it also asks for a report from the provider’s social worker. Check that the documents identify the person receiving care and the service they use.
If you are applying for a care needs assessment for the first time, state your preference in the initial application and include the provider’s paperwork with the required assessment documents. If you have already applied and want to change your initial preference or the support in an approved care plan, use the form for new preferences or a review of the PIA. In section C, tick the service-linked benefit for day or residential care, as appropriate. The form has separate boxes for requesting a place.
You can file the initial application online or at an official registry. For in-person applications, the regional government gives preference to the registry at your local council. Keep the filing receipt with the contract and invoices. Once the decision arrives, check which service it covers, what conditions apply and when it takes effect before budgeting for the next bill.
