A licence for coastal fishing does not cover a river, reservoir, lagoon or canal. These count as continental waters and require a separate regional licence, including brackish waters near a river mouth.
A recreational licence costs €10.39 for one year or €29.10 for three in 2026. Applications are open year-round and people already listed in the regional hunter and angler register can obtain one immediately through online payment.
Exemptions and a 50% reduction apply
Children under 14, people over 67, permanent incapacity pension recipients and special-category large or single-parent families are exempt. General-category large and single-parent families receive a 50% reduction.
Applicants under 18 need identification and parental authorisation. Fast online issue requires prior entry in the regional register.
A local permit may still be required
The licence does not override closed seasons, sizes, limits or local rules. Individual fisheries, stretches and species may require another permit.
This article should be updated when fees, exemptions, fishing orders or the online system change.
