Castelló’s Citizen Card links buses, Bicicas and libraries but requires in-person activation

Residents aged three and over may apply online, but even the virtual version requires an office visit to verify identity.

One card can carry Castelló metropolitan transport’s 10- and 30-trip products, identify a Bicicas user and provide access to municipal libraries and the wider Valencian public library network. The Citizen Card is available in physical or virtual form to registered city residents aged three and over.

Applications may start online, through the app or in person. Applicants need a national ID, foreigner ID or passport and a recent front-facing colour photograph against a plain light background. An unsuitable image blocks approval until corrected through the electronic office.

Virtual does not mean entirely remote

Both formats require an office visit to verify identity and sign the user agreement. Cards requested online can be collected at the Plaza Mayor office without an appointment from 9:00 to 11:00, subject to a daily limit, or by appointment from 11:00 to 13:30. The rules also list the Grao district office at Paseo Buenavista 28.

Minors must attend with a parent or guardian. Where the child has no ID card, a family book or another document proving parentage or guardianship is accepted.

It is not an identity document

The card uses Móbilis-compatible contactless technology but cannot replace official identification. Nor does it automatically activate Bicicas: registration and payment in that service’s own system remain necessary. The card has no general expiry date, although each linked service may set conditions.

Any confirmed addition of sports facilities, ticketing or further municipal services would warrant an update.
