Family fostering provides a protected child with care and a home but is not adoption. It may be emergency, temporary or permanent, while the protection system determines the legal framework and birth-family contact.
An information session comes first
Adults resident in Valencia may offer to foster. Those without a family or emotional connection to a child first attend a territorial information session, then submit the form and questionnaire. An offer can expire after two years if assessment has not begun.
Checks cover adult criminal records, sexual-offence certificates for household members over 14, health, residence and the capacity to meet a child’s needs. There is no single required family model.
An offer does not guarantee a placement
The authority prioritises each child’s interests and needs. Approval does not mean an immediate placement. Relatives and people with an existing connection use a specific extended-family procedure.
