Todolella: castle-palace, Cantavieja bridges and medieval centre

The photograph shows the front of Todolella castle-palace, with masonry, battlements, central tower and Gothic tracery windows. Neither the parade ground nor the interior is visible. The building stands on a rise beside the village, but the image provides no evidence of visitor access.

The castle combines fortress and residence

Built in the fourteenth century, the castle retains its gateway, towers, courtyard and palatial rooms. Defensive form coexists with residential details visible in the windows. This is a property with its own access arrangements, so viewing the exterior does not mean rooms or courtyards can be entered.

Two bridges record different river crossings

South of the village, a Gothic bridge crosses the Cantavieja near San Onofre Chapel. Puente del Molino is earlier and stands beside the former mill. These are different structures: calling both simply the “medieval bridge” hides their location and relationship with routes and water use.

San Bartolomé belongs to the historic centre

San Bartolomé Apóstol Church has thirteenth-century Romanesque origins and later additions. The town hall in Plaza Mayor retains an unusual low arch opening into its porch. These features belong to the stone street pattern, separate from both the bridges and the former settlement of Saranyana.
