The photograph shows turbines at Las Cabrillas wind farm beside a road in the municipality; the historic enclosure is not visible. The energy landscape is part of the plateau’s contemporary appearance, but it must not be labelled as the castle, wall or church.
The castle became part of the village fabric
Portell does not retain a separate, complete fortress. The former castle tower now serves as the bell tower of Assumption parish church, while several wall sections, towers and a gateway are incorporated among homes and streets. The inner square is known as El Corro.
The squares define a short but specific route
Plaça Major contains the town hall and arcade. From there the route climbs to the cobbled church square and El Corro; Our Lady of Hope chapel and the washhouse lie on lower ground. San Marcos chapel at Les Albaredes is outside the village and requires a separate journey.
Rambla Celumbres is not an urban stroll
The protected landscape also extends into Castellfort and Cinctorres, with an incised channel, cliffs and landmarks such as Roca Roja and Roca Parda. Published mountain-bike routes from Portell cover tens of kilometres with substantial climbing. Trails and via ferrata routes require current technical information rather than a generic recommendation.
