The photograph shows the stone façade of La Salzadella town hall on Carrer Major. Balconies, flags, crest, entrance and an exterior ramp can be seen. This is neither Portal de la Bassa nor Portal de les Coves.

Two gateways make the medieval enclosure legible

The provincial route preserves Portal de la Bassa and Portal de les Coves as entrances to the former walled centre. The first guarded the route towards Sant Mateu and retains an ashlar arch and wall section; the second opened towards les Coves de Vinromà.

The walls enclosed everyday spaces and services

The historic circuit had four towered gateways and contained the old church, hospital, court house, oven, inn, grain store, prison, burial ground and Carrer Major. That relationship explains the centre better than a generic label, but the photographed town hall is not a medieval gateway.

The Baroque parish belongs to another period

Josep Palau built the church between 1736 and 1756. It has a broad three-bay nave, interconnected side chapels, crossing dome and square bell tower. Its sacred treasury includes catalogued objects from the 15th to 18th centuries; access must be checked separately.

This documentary edit corrects the photograph and separates town hall, walls and church. It does not verify offices, ramp, gateways, stability, homes, worship, treasury, objects, visits, hours, parking or accessibility on site.
