The photograph shows Cervera del Maestre Castle on a hill of cultivated terraces. A rectangular tower, several curtain walls and intermediate structures are visible above vegetation climbing towards the fortress. Neither the old centre nor Molí de l’Oli appears.

The fortress passed from Islamic rule to military orders

The council identifies a 12th-century Islamic castle built over an earlier hisn. After its surrender, the Hospitallers and Order of Montesa occupied it, and it served as an administrative centre for the Maestrazgo. The visible towers and perimeter belong to several phases rather than one intact construction.

Restoration ended in 2026, but opening is a separate announcement

Excavation, consolidation, visitor routes, signs, lighting and access improvements concluded in June 2026. The council report itself said entry into service and visits would be announced later. Completion of building work therefore does not guarantee daily opening or access to every space.

Molí de l’Oli explains the landscape’s economy

The former manorial oil mill survives beside the rambla and now houses an interpretation centre and tourist office. Its 1606 wooden press, millstone and jar rooms, and waterwheel explain historical oil production. It is a separate building outside the castle panorama, with its own visiting information.

This documentary edit distinguishes castle, works and mill. It does not verify opening, routes, museum, excavations, stability, crops, ownership, press, demonstrations, hours, parking, signs or accessibility on site.
