Albocàsser occupies a hillside in the Alt Maestrat, but two of its principal references lie beyond a simple walk around the square. Sant Pau is about three and a half kilometres away, while the rock-art shelters belong to a wider territory shaped by the Valltorta and Gasulla ravines.
Sant Pau is a complex, not just a chapel
The church, former hospice and side porticoes surround a courtyard with a well. The chapel contains documented Baroque frescoes painted by Vicent Guilló in 1690, while upper rooms preserve monochrome scenes associated with the life of Saint Paul. The photograph shows the façade and part of this hospitality complex.
The exterior still conveys its scale when rooms are closed. Confirm opening before planning to see the paintings or interiors; the date of this review records documentary research, not an on-site visit.
The museum is not in Albocàsser
The Valltorta Museum is in Tírig. It interprets the region’s rock art and displays, among other material, a tracing from Albocàsser’s Cova Centelles. The shelters themselves are outdoors, and the regional government states that descent to those open to visitors is made with a guide: they should not be sought out or entered independently.
What belongs to the village walk
In the centre, Plaça Major brings together the town hall and parish church; Carrer Major leads towards buildings including Palau Fuster and the Sants Joans chapel. This makes a short visit of its own. Combining it with Sant Pau or a rock-art activity requires transfer time and advance booking where applicable.
