Alicante has introduced a new resource for people and families who cannot immediately afford food, personal hygiene products or household cleaning supplies. The vouchers can be worth up to €220 a month, depending on household size, and may be granted for periods of one to three months.
This is not a consumer voucher campaign with a separate public application form. It forms part of Alicante City Council’s social-emergency response, requires a professional assessment and is used only where an urgent need cannot be met through another service or benefit. The Red Cross will manage delivery and tell each recipient which shop to use, how to redeem the voucher and which products are excluded.
The amount depends on household size
The council has allocated €141,581 to the scheme through December 2026. The proposed scale starts at €100 a month for one person. It rises to €130 for a two-person household, €160 for three people, €190 for four and €220 for five or more.
The vouchers cover food and basic hygiene and cleaning items. They are not cash or a bank transfer. Support may be provided once or continue for several months, but every award requires a prior technical proposal and cannot exceed the announced one-to-three-month period.
Who may receive support
The resource is intended for individuals or households that can show they live in Alicante, face vulnerability or a social emergency and need an immediate response. Their need must not already be covered by another programme, service or benefit.
Meeting these conditions does not create an automatic entitlement to a voucher. The professional team considers household circumstances, income, urgency and existing support. That assessment determines whether this is the appropriate resource or whether another council service would fit the situation better.
Contact Social Services first
Anyone seeking support should contact the social-services team responsible for their home address. Alicante has five zones —Central, West, South, North and East— and the council provides an address guide for finding the correct centre.
Appointments can be requested through the Central Social Assistance line on 900 700 096, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 2 pm. Residents can also visit their social centre’s front desk from 9 am to 2 pm or use the council’s online appointment and information form, which does not require a digital certificate. If the situation is urgent, explain that when asking for assistance so the team can assess priority.
What to explain at the first appointment
The council has not published a closed list of documents specifically for these vouchers. The first contact should therefore be used to confirm what evidence the team needs in each case. It helps to be able to explain who lives in the household, where they live, what income and benefits they receive, and which essential need they cannot currently meet.
The distinction matters: the council announcement creates an emergency resource, not a general call with a closing date. Access starts with Social Services and, if the assessment is favourable, ends with Red Cross guidance on using the voucher.
