The photograph shows the rear façade of Geldo’s Dukes of Medinaceli Palace. Walls built in different materials, windows, a central projection and the square’s arched ramp in front can be seen. The frame does not show the complete façade or interior.
The palace retains medieval layers hidden for centuries
The council booklet traces its origins to the Islamic period and describes it as an important example of medieval civic architecture. Doorways and windows were concealed by later alterations, while late-15th-century wall finishes and plasterwork related to Valencian civil Gothic survived.
Its uses changed substantially before heritage recovery
During the 19th and 20th centuries it accommodated, among other uses, council rooms, a jail, school, café and club, textile work, oil mill, housing and associations. That history explains its material mixture and prevents the building being presented as an intact noble residence frozen in one period.
The interior now includes a museum and exhibitions
The council service charter places the Ramón Rubio Museum, an exhibition room in the former chapel and an audiovisual room in the palace. It also publishes visit and booking information. As times and conditions may change, they should be confirmed on the council website before travelling.
