The photograph shows the stone façade of El Toro town hall and its arcade of three semicircular arches; it does not show the castle or former church. The municipal building, dated to the seventeenth century by the regional guide, belongs to the Plaza de la Iglesia route and distinguishes the present centre from the upper enclosure.
The castle and church occupy the hill
The irregular mountain fortress stands at about 1,040 metres and defended the settlement from the former frontier of the Christian lordship. Inside are the ruins of the first Church of Santa María, documented in the mid-thirteenth century. This official reference corrects a “third century” attribution on another tourism page that conflicts with the documented chronology.
The square explains the village’s movement
The population gradually moved from the castle’s protection down the sheltered slope towards the plain. A town walk connects the town hall, Plaza del Járiz, a stone fountain dated 1799, washhouse, Church of Our Lady of the Angels and wall remains. They are separate features; the main photograph establishes only the identity of the council building.
Pozo Junco and El Molinar are separate outings
The high plateau lies between the El Toro and Javalambre ranges and contains routes towards Pozo Junco, El Molinar hamlet, pools, ice houses, trenches and a former airfield. Black truffle is part of local production and seasonal food events, but availability should not be assumed outside its season or presented as a permanent visitor attraction.
Check weather, snow, tracks, protection of remains and hill access. This documentary review does not verify ruin stability, church opening, accessibility, water, fairs or path condition on site.
