The photograph shows the modern entrance to La Pobla Tornesa’s Casa de la Vila and town hall, with older stonework incorporated into the building; the Via Augusta is not visible. The town centre, historic road and Desert de les Palmes require separate interpretations.

Casa de la Vila belongs to the town route

A walk through town links the former council building, Casa de la Cultura and Saint Michael the Archangel church. The eighteenth-century church holds work by Amat Bellés Roig. The main image identifies the municipal building; it does not illustrate milestones, Roman paving or a trail.

The Via Augusta is a territorial corridor

The official route between Vilanova d’Alcolea and La Pobla Tornesa covers about eight kilometres and includes sections associated with the ancient road and milestone finds. Not every rural track is original Roman paving. Signs, farm traffic and continuity need checking before travelling on foot or by bicycle.

The Desert extends across several municipalities

The park covers about 3,200 hectares in La Pobla Tornesa, Cabanes, Benicàssim, Borriol and Castelló. From La Pobla’s municipality, the circular Les Santes chapel route covers 3.5 kilometres with 150 metres of ascent according to the park sheet; it is not the Bartolo climb or the approach to La Bartola centre.

Check fire risk, closures, heat, water and surfaces before setting out. This documentary edit does not verify Roman remains, town-hall accessibility, trail condition or interior opening on site.
