The glasses and contact-lens scheme covers up to €100 per child each year

The programme can fund frames, lenses or contacts until 31 December 2026; families pay any excess above the limit.

Glasses, contact lenses and generic prescription symbolising public eyesight support

Families do not receive €100 as a cash transfer. The public eyesight scheme funds eligible glasses or contact lenses up to that annual limit for qualifying children through participating opticians. If the product costs less, there is nothing to pay; if it costs more, the family pays the difference.

What may be covered

Support may apply to frames and prescription lenses or contacts, including a year’s solution where applicable. A valid prescription or sight measurement is required and the provider must participate. Confirm participation and the exact covered amount before ordering.

Publicidad

The scheme runs until 31 December 2026. The limit is per person per year, not per purchase: splitting an order or changing optician does not multiply it. Optional extras that are not required for vision correction are not automatically free.

Records to keep

The optician should state the total price, public contribution and any balance due. Keep the prescription, quotation and receipt. A purchase already made outside the programme should not be assumed to qualify for later reimbursement. Future rounds may alter ages, dates or amounts.
