Castelló cuts solar-equipped properties’ IBI by 50%, capped at €350

Systems must reach 2 kW and applications close on 31 December; shared self-consumption can also qualify.

Installing solar panels in Castelló does not reduce property tax automatically. The council offers a 50% reduction in the full IBI charge, capped at €350 per bill, but owners must apply and document the system.

Minimum capacity is 2 kW. Homes covered by an energy-sharing agreement for collective self-consumption can also qualify.

Savings begin in the following tax year

The reduction is application-based, not retrospective, and takes effect in the tax period after the request. The council deadline is 31 December. Applications use the general online form or an in-person appointment.

The benefit lasts for the five years after application and cannot exceed the installation cost. It is unavailable where panels are legally compulsory. For tertiary properties, at least 60% of capacity must serve self-consumption.

An invoice alone is not enough

Required evidence includes the technical design, completion certificate, itemised invoices, energy bulletin, municipal-fee payment and self-consumption register entry. Shared systems also need the community’s energy-sharing resolution.

Update if the rate, €350 cap, minimum capacity or tax calendar changes.
