Separating organic waste can reduce a home’s Alicante waste charge by up to 20%, but occasional use of a brown bin is not enough. Deposits are recorded through the “Tú Haces Alicante” card or app, which must be linked to the property.
The maximum reduction requires at least four deposits in each of ten months: 40 qualifying deposits. Only one deposit per day counts, and activity from the previous year determines the reduction.
Lower discounts apply after fewer months
Four deposits a month for eight months earn 15%; five months earn 10%; and three months earn 5%. A burst of openings in a few weeks cannot replace the required monthly pattern.
The measure applies to owners of residential properties with cadastral use code V. People joining during the year can qualify for a lower band.
The physical card and app perform the same job
The card is requested through the council procedure, while the app can identify the user and open the bin by Bluetooth. Linking a home may require ID and the reference from the waste-charge bill.
Update if the council changes the bands, counting method or property-linking process.
