The towers tell an agricultural story

The Torres de la Huerta protected productive farmland, not just the shoreline. Alicante council’s documentation connects them with the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, irrigation channels supplied from Tibi reservoir and vine growing. This gives the tower, adjoining house and fields a shared context.

What Torre Ansaldo adds

The interpretation project at Torre Ansaldo explains how a refuge tower became part of a complex linked to agricultural production and management. Its account connects the building with irrigation and wine-making. This provides a specific reason to study it instead of simply adding another tower to a list.

A smaller scale at Benimagrell

Turismo Sant Joan highlights Sant Roc chapel and traditional bakeries in Benimagrell. Camí de l’Alqueria del Canonge belongs to the historic paths described by the municipal portal. These references offer a way into everyday life in the former agricultural district as well as its defensive architecture.

Our suggestion is to choose a theme: the tower system for defensive history, or Benimagrell and the paths for the fabric of a smaller settlement. We do not present every country house as an open museum or suggest entering private land to complete a route.

Before travelling to a particular tower, ask whether a visit is organised and where it starts. Inclusion in a heritage route does not establish unrestricted interior access. Distances, path conditions and special openings need checking for the chosen outing; this guide does not assign a generic three-to-five-hour duration.
