Torremanzanas: Casa Alta and a village between mountain trails

Casa Alta explains something that is not obvious from the square: Torremanzanas developed beside a watchtower of Almohad origin. The building later became a manorial residence and underwent repeated alterations, so its fabric records several periods rather than one structure preserved unchanged.

From the town hall to Casa Alta

A village walk can begin around the town hall and Santa Ana church. The parish has documented roots in the sixteenth century, although much of its present appearance belongs to later phases. Casa Alta then provides the defensive element that helps explain both the place name and the settlement’s position.

The council’s account records damage and alterations to Casa Alta. Do not therefore assume that its interior is open: check its current condition and access arrangements before making a special journey.

The mountain is not another village street

The GR 330 connects the municipality with Sella and Ibi on mountain stages. Local paths and structures linked to the traditional ice trade, including snow wells at higher elevations, add other possibilities. These are separate outings, not extensions of the urban stroll: check the route, waymarking, weather, ascent and available daylight.

Keeping the visit realistic

For a short stop, the square, Santa Ana and the exterior of Casa Alta form a coherent sequence. Adding a mountain route changes both the character and duration of the day and should not be treated as an improvised walk from the centre.
