QHD means 2560 × 1440 pixels. At 27 inches it produces roughly 109 pixels per inch: more detail and workspace than Full HD without the graphics demand of 4K. That balance does not guarantee good colour, motion, ergonomics or connectivity.
Confirm the exact output mode first

It is not enough for the GPU to “support QHD”. Confirm refresh at that resolution, port capabilities and the available colour mode. Corporate docks and USB‑C hubs may introduce their own limits.
Reading 144, 165 and 180 Hz claims
Higher refresh shortens the interval between images, but the computer must generate enough frames and panel response must keep pace. Check whether the maximum is native or an overclock, which input enables it and at what colour depth. For games, verify the variable-refresh range and behaviour below that range.
USB‑C combines separate functions
- Video: requires a compatible output mode; not every USB‑C port carries an image.
- Charging: compare monitor wattage with the laptop’s needs under load.
- Data: monitor USB ports can form a hub, but bandwidth may be shared with video.
An integrated KVM can simplify switching between desktop and laptop. Confirm how image and peripherals switch and whether settings are remembered by input.
Scaling and usable workspace
Many people use QHD at 100% scaling on 27 inches, but comfort depends on distance and eyesight. Test operating-system text size rather than assuming. Two windows fit more comfortably than on Full HD, although a second screen or ultrawide may be better for three simultaneous documents.
Gaming is a complete chain
- Estimate GPU performance in the games and quality settings you use.
- Find which input enables QHD at maximum refresh.
- Verify variable-refresh support and range.
- Consult response and overshoot measurements, not only “1 ms”.
- Decide whether you will reduce graphics quality for smoother motion.
Visual and creative work
For photography, design or video, resolution is only the beginning. Look for coverage of the colour space you use, measured accuracy, uniformity, temperature and gamma controls, and calibration support. QHD can edit 4K material but cannot display every pixel of a full 4K frame at once.
Reject the monitor if…
- The promised refresh does not work through your computer’s input.
- The stand does not fit or place the image comfortably.
- USB‑C cannot supply the laptop’s required power.
- Dead-pixel or return terms are unclear.
- Ports become inaccessible in your mounting arrangement.
- You need speakers, a KVM or audio output and they are absent.
