The photograph shows one corner of La Villa: residential façades, pebble paving and part of a stone Gothic doorway at the right edge. It is neither an overview of the district nor a view inside the caves. The frame does, however, show how homes and monumental buildings coexist along narrow streets.
La Villa retains its elevated historic layout
The old quarter occupies higher ground and brings together former wall entrances, squares, churches and substantial houses. Calle Santa María, Plaza de Albornoz and Cuesta del Castillo connect features often described in isolation. Uneven paving and gradients are practical parts of this route.
Twenty-two caves connect beneath the square
The chambers were excavated through tufa and clay and linked during their modern recovery. The current circuit covers about 1,200 square metres. They served as grain stores, ossuaries and, most importantly, wine cellars; visitors can still recognise presses, channels and jars used in winemaking.
Torre del Homenaje explains the fortress
The tower belongs to the former alcazaba and occupies the district’s highest point. Its interior serves as an interpretation centre, while the wall walk helps explain the relationship between fortification and town. It has separate admission from the caves, so opening, availability and conditions require individual checks.
This documentary review limits the description to what is visible and separates street, underground spaces and fortress. It does not verify the doorway’s identity, opening, admission, temperature, humidity, stairs, paving, gradients, works, railings or accessibility on site.
