Teulada is more than the name paired with Moraira in tourism campaigns. The inland town has its own historic street plan, surrounded by farmland in which vines have long been a recognisable feature. The clearest starting point is Santa Caterina, a fortified church connected with the defences of the former walled settlement.

Reading the old enclosure

Santa Caterina combines a religious purpose with a defensive appearance. Nearby stand the Divina Pastora chapel and the former Sala de Jurats i Justícies, once the seat of local government. Instead of treating them as isolated sights, look at how they fit into the narrow streets and the perimeter of the protected historic area.

The official heritage declaration also records remains and traces of the fortifications. They are not all immediately obvious: a slow circuit around the church and the Sala makes the compact scale of the town before its later expansion easier to understand.

Allow separate time for Teulada and Moraira

Moraira is the coastal settlement in the same municipality, several kilometres away. Its castle, harbour and coves make a separate visit, not a walkable extension of central Teulada. With only a few hours, choose either the inland heritage or the coast; combining both requires a transfer and extra allowance for traffic and parking pressure in high season.

Before going inside

The outside of the historic ensemble can be explored without relying on opening times. Check current council or tourist information before planning to enter a church or another interior: this documentary review does not confirm opening, accessibility or specific visitor services.
