Confrides sits high above the Marina Baixa and shares its municipality with L’Abdet, 3.5 kilometres away. The visit is not a generic collection of viewpoints: it combines two small settlements, a ruined medieval castle, a historic Valencian pilota court and paths into the Aitana mountains. This guide keeps the village walk separate from mountain outings, which need more time, suitable equipment and a check of current conditions.
What to see in Confrides
Plaza del Nogal and San José church
The square opposite the town hall, marked by the large walnut tree associated with the village, is the clearest starting point. From here, narrow streets lead through the centre to the parish church of San José. The walk is short, but it shows how the settlement is arranged on the slope and provides context before travelling on to L’Abdet.
Aljofra or Alfofra Castle
The remains of this 13th-century fortress stand on Penya del Castellet at roughly 1,100 metres above sea level. Sections of wall, a cistern and defensive towers can still be identified. This is neither an urban stop nor a managed museum: reaching the ruins involves mountain terrain, so visitors should confirm the route, weather and path conditions before setting out.
L’Abdet: trinquet, church and washhouse
L’Abdet deserves a separate stop. Its trinquet, dated to 1772 by the town council, preserves the local pilota grossa tradition and is an unusually specific piece of sporting heritage. The settlement also contains San Vicente Ferrer church and a restored public washhouse about 200 metres from the centre. The two villages can be linked by road or on foot when following a known route.
Font de l’Arbre and the Aitana mountains
The Font de l’Arbre recreation area lies in the Aitana range at around 1,200 metres, close to the PR-CV 20 and PR-CV 21 paths. It has a spring and picnic tables beneath poplars, although water flow, fire restrictions and access can change. Other municipal routes reach snow pits, chasms, springs and ravines and should not be treated as an easy extension of the village stroll.
A sensible itinerary
- Begin at Plaza del Nogal and walk through Confrides to San José church.
- Continue to L’Abdet for the trinquet, San Vicente Ferrer church and the washhouse.
- If you have enough daylight and mountain experience, choose one outing: Aljofra Castle or Font de l’Arbre.
- Leave time for local food rather than adding unplanned ravines or summits.
Food with a local basis
The council’s own visitor information lists dishes shared with the Guadalest valley: olleta de blat, rice with cardoon stalks, soup with meatballs, rabbit and vegetable minchos. Almonds, cherries and olives also reflect the surrounding agriculture. These are more useful references for choosing a meal than generic claims about coastal seafood.

Before you go
- Allow half a day for the settlements; the castle, ravines or higher Aitana routes require a mountain day.
- Check the forecast, wildfire risk and council notices; carry water, sun protection and footwear with grip.
- Do not enter ruins, caves or chasms without safe conditions and the necessary technical knowledge.
- Confirm food and accommodation opening times, especially on weekdays.
