People receiving a Spanish non-contributory pension who live in rented accommodation can apply for an annual €525 supplement in 2026. It is not added to the pension automatically: an application must reach the Generalitat by 31 December, as the Valencian administration is responsible for deciding claims in the region.
The benefit is paid as a single amount. Applicants must hold a non-contributory retirement or disability pension both when they apply and when the decision is issued, own no home and be named as the tenant on the rental agreement.
The tenancy and actual residence determine eligibility
Paying for a room or simply living in a rented home is not enough. The tenancy must run for at least one year, and the applicant must have lived there for the 180 days immediately before applying. The landlord must not be the applicant’s spouse or stable partner, nor a relative by blood, marriage or adoption up to the third degree.
If two or more non-contributory pension recipients share the same rented home, the payment is not made to each of them. It goes to the person named as tenant or, where several pensioners are named, the first one listed. The supplement is excluded from the income calculation used to decide whether the recipient keeps the underlying non-contributory pension.
Documents required for the Valencian application
Procedure GVA 3380 asks for the dedicated form, an up-to-date copy of the applicant’s identity document, an individual municipal registration certificate matching the rented address and a copy of the tenancy in the pensioner’s name showing the location of the property. Anyone applying through a representative must also provide evidence of that authority.
The application can be filed online with an electronic signature accepted by the Generalitat. The online route uses a general application form: applicants must attach the dedicated form and evidence, identify the benefit requested and specify Alicante, Castellón or Valencia as the relevant province. Paper applications are also accepted at territorial directorates, PROP offices and other legally authorised registers; documents sent through a post office must be presented in an open envelope so the first page can be stamped.
State rules allow up to three months for a decision and treat an application as refused if no notice arrives in that period. The administration must still issue a decision, and the claimant may submit the preliminary complaint required before going to the social courts. Because the Valencian procedure page retains some outdated annual references, the 2026 amount and closing date should be read from the current Imserso information and the pension revaluation decree published in the BOE.
