An older resident who can no longer wash, prepare food or maintain their home without support may apply for Castelló’s municipal Home Help Service. It is free, open year-round and intended to help people remain at home. It does not replace all family care or continuous healthcare.
Qualified staff may assist with personal hygiene, meal and medication supervision, shopping or cleaning. Support is tailored after assessing what the applicant cannot do and what help is available around them.
Applicants must live and be registered in Castelló and be older, disabled or recovering from illness. They must show that essential daily tasks cannot be covered personally or by available relatives. An income scale, medical evidence and a social assessment also apply.
The Social Services interview is compulsory
Starting online does not remove the interview requirement. Applicants book the municipal Social Services centre assigned to their registration area. The council portal lists centres for Centre, Sud, Nord, Grau, Oest and Est.
A medical report is mandatory. Depending on the case, the file may include identity and health cards, data-access consent, a tax return or non-filing certificate, pension evidence, disability status, representation papers, a tenancy agreement or payslips.
Free does not mean automatic approval
Users pay no fee, although a council contractor delivers the service. Each case is assessed individually, including support available from relatives. The portal states a three-month decision period and positive administrative silence.
València Informada’s October report on the €5.46 million tender concerned service procurement; this article addresses access. Changes to the income scale, free status or centre network would require an update.
