Education unions propose 12 December march and one-day strike in Castellón

The roadmap includes November action and a choice between 21 January and 4 February for a provincial stoppage; dates are not yet formally called.

Fourteen education organisations have agreed to consult members on a protest calendar which, in Castellón, includes a march on 12 December and a provincial one-day strike on either 21 January or 4 February. These are proposals: the stoppage has not been formally called and the final option depends on the consultation.

Action would begin with a “Green November”, education workers joining the 11 November general strike, and marches, rallies or bicycle protests from 2 to 6 November. Regular demonstrations outside schools are also being considered. The indefinite strike that began in May remains suspended.

A 21 October meeting could alter the timetable

STEPV, CCOO and UGT argue that Education’s proposed schedule of 47 negotiating meetings omits unresolved issues from the previous dispute, including staffing, class sizes, purchasing power, infrastructure and Valencian-language teaching. The regional ministry has called the unions to a meeting on Wednesday 21 October.

That meeting is the immediate test of whether the union plan continues, changes or becomes more concrete. Families and schools should not yet treat the January or February options as cancelled school days: a strike requires a formal call, after which the administration must set minimum-service requirements.
