AEMET has issued an orange rain warning for Sunday 18 October along the southern Valencia coast and northern Alicante coast. Forecast thresholds reach 60 litres per square metre in one hour and 150 in twelve hours, enough to cause rapid pooling and problems around ravines, underpasses and low-lying roads.
The episode is expected to begin on Saturday under yellow warnings before intensifying on Sunday in areas including la Safor, la Valldigna, la Ribera Baixa, la Marina Alta, la Vall d’Albaida and l’Alcoià. Exact distribution may change and does not mean every town will receive the same rainfall. AEMET allows for still higher local totals over the full day where storms persist.
Timing and location matter more than the headline total
An orange warning indicates significant danger, not guaranteed damage. Residents should check local notices before travelling, stay away from ravines and flood-prone areas and never drive through water. Emergency service 112 notes that flash flooding can occur away from the place where rain is falling.
Unsettled weather may last into Monday lunchtime, with temperatures below 20C across much of the region. Warnings are revised several times a day. Any later change to AEMET’s level, timing or area, and any measures announced by 112 or councils, supersede this Friday forecast.
