A duvet or out-of-season clothing can take up an entire shelf. Vacuum storage bags allow air to be removed to compress suitable textiles, an option to consider in light of what you plan to store and its care instructions.
Before choosing a pack, measure the cupboard, under-bed compartment or box it will go into. A large bag is not necessarily convenient if the filled shape does not fit the intended space.
The valve and seal matter
Check how the air is removed and whether a vacuum cleaner, compatible pump or another method is required. Do not assume your vacuum or a pump from another pack will fit the valve.
Look at filling and sealing instructions too. Leaving enough room to close the bag may matter more than using every centimetre. An outside label identifying the contents avoids opening several bags to find one item.
Compression is not suitable for every textile
Check whether the garment or filling manufacturer permits compression and for how long. Store textiles clean and completely dry; a bag does not replace the storage conditions the material needs.
For clothes you access weekly, consider the effort of opening and resealing. For seasonal storage, compare sizes and buy for the items you actually need to put away, without assuming a fixed percentage of space savings.
