El Palomar is a Vall d’Albaida municipality whose small built-up area is complemented by mountain land near the Ombria del Benicadell. A visit needs no anonymous placeholders: Sant Pere church, the Rosary hermitage, La Sala, Font de Sis and the castle known as Carrícola provide identifiable stops. The new featured photograph shows Sant Pere’s bell tower and part of the church. It replaces the inherited photograph of a resting cat, which documented neither the town nor its heritage.

Sant Pere Apòstol church and bell tower

València Turisme dates the church to the seventeenth century and describes its Baroque appearance. Other local summaries mention later rebuilding, so it is more accurate to call it a transformed historic building than to assign every visible element to one campaign. The pale tower with red detailing is a landmark in the village. The tourism profile mentions views from the bell tower, but that is not evidence of unrestricted entry: any ascent depends on permission, opening and safe conditions.

Rosary hermitage, ceramics and streets

The Rosary hermitage was rebuilt in the nineteenth century with Neoclassical inspiration. It joins a walking route through streets carrying polychrome devotional ceramic panels. View these panels from public space without touching them, blocking doors or treating every house as a visitor attraction. Entry to the hermitage and parish church depends on worship and actual opening.

La Sala and the archaeological collection

La Sala was the former town hall. The provincial profile places an archaeological collection associated with Carrícola Castle there. Confirm that the display remains open and in this location before travelling, because the word “museum” does not guarantee permanent hours in a small municipality. The building connects local civic history with the defensive heritage of the mountains.

Carrícola Castle: its name is not its municipal location

The Valencian Government heritage record resolves a frequent geographical mistake: the Castellet stands inside El Palomar municipality, although only a short distance from Carrícola. It retains features of an Islamic watch fortress with medieval Christian changes and is protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest. It must not be reassigned to Carrícola merely because of its established name or described as a complete, furnished castle.

This is a mountain tower and enclosure, not a serviced urban viewpoint. Follow a current route, respect closures and never climb walls or rock. Visual proximity to Carrícola does not turn private tracks, terraces or shortcuts into authorised access.

Barranc de la Junda and Font de Sis

The institutional proposal links the poplar-lined Barranc de la Junda with Font de Sis along the Senda Verda. The site takes its name from a six-spout spring and retains an old wash house. The profile also mentions tables, barbecue areas, toilets and catering, but services can change. Confirm availability and fire-risk restrictions before planning a meal or any use of flame.

Avoid ravines and springs after intense rain, keep water clean and stay on the path. The urban walk and Font de Sis outing can be separate plans; adding the castle requires more preparation, appropriate footwear and weather checks.

Plantà del Xop

Plantà del Xop is traditionally held on the second weekend in May, when a poplar is carried and raised in the square. The programme also includes the flag dance and els pastorets. This is a community tradition, not a year-round attraction: consult the annual programme, respect safety perimeters and participants, and never present handling the tree as a visitor activity.

Plans and food

  1. Short walk: Sant Pere, ceramic-panel streets, Rosary hermitage and La Sala from public areas.
  2. Half day: add Barranc de la Junda and Font de Sis when the route is in suitable condition.
  3. Mountain outing: prepare the Castellet as a separate walk with current mapping and forecast.

The provincial source highlights oven-baked rice at Easter, boiled broad beans during Plantà del Xop and paella. Verify dates, services and access before travelling, especially after rain or during periods of high fire danger. Carrícola, Bèlgida and Montaverner are related but separate visits.
