Beniardá guide: reservoir, aqueduct and circular walk

Beniardá lies in the Guadalest valley between the Xortà and Serrella ranges, close to the reservoir. The village is small enough for a quiet walk, leaving time for one clearly defined countryside route. Its identity is better understood through the street plan inherited from the Moorish period, the small aqueduct at the entrance and the signed circuit beside the reservoir than through a generic list of viewpoints.

What to see in Beniardá

Aqueduct and village entrance

A small aqueduct almost marks the entrance to the settlement and provides an easy starting point. It is not an isolated monumental structure but part of a traditional water landscape shaped by terraces and agriculture. From here, the relationship between the river, cultivated slopes and the compact village becomes much easier to read.

Street plan with Moorish roots

The narrow, irregular streets preserve the memory of the Andalusi settlement. The town council identifies remains of Arab foundations in a house on Calle de la Torre. As this is private property, it should be observed only from public space rather than presented as an interior attraction. The square and adjoining streets complete a short and respectful village walk.

Guadalest Reservoir

The reservoir dominates many views from Beniardá, although viewpoints should not be confused with safe access to the water. Paths cross pinewoods, olive groves, almond trees and other valley crops. Water levels change, and the banks may be muddy or steep, so visitors should remain on the route instead of improvising shortcuts down to the shore.

Reservoir circular route

The council route starts on Calle San Francisco and covers about 10 kilometres. It is described as low in technical difficulty and suitable for families, with one leg following a path and the return using an asphalt track, or vice versa. That description does not remove the need to judge heat, distance and the group’s ability: ten kilometres still require water, suitable footwear and several free hours.

Font Vella and harder mountain options

Font Vella is another local reference shaped by the traditional use of water. Beniardá also provides access towards Mallada del Llop and higher parts of the Serrella, but those are mountain outings rather than extensions of the reservoir circuit. Choose one type of day and download a reliable track before leaving the village.

Half-day or full-day plan

1. Begin at the aqueduct and walk through the village to the square.
2. Look for reservoir views without entering fields or descending unstable banks.
3. For a short visit, add Font Vella and leave time for a local meal.
4. For a full day, complete the reservoir circuit and save the high summits for another outing.

Food and local products

Official visitor information highlights olive oil, honey, sweets, cured meats, minxos and pumpkin fritters, together with natural lemonade at the craft fair. These products are rooted in the valley’s agricultural tradition. Everyday availability is limited, so check opening times and event dates rather than assuming a market or fair operates throughout the year.

Practical advice

• Avoid the middle of summer days: exposed sections make ten kilometres considerably harder in heat.
• Check weather and local notices after heavy rain, when paths and banks may change.
• Carry your own water even when passing springs and do not rely on continuous phone coverage.
• Respect crops, private property and all signs around the reservoir.
