On Tuesday, September 22, the main public transportation networks of the Valencian Community will offer free service as part of the celebration of the Car-Free Day, which closes the European Mobility Week. Metrovalencia, TRAM d’Alacant, TRAM de Castelló and Metrobús join this initiative promoted by the Generalitat with the objective of promoting the use of sustainable and collective means of transportation, reducing the dependence on the car in cities. The measure seeks to promote more responsible and accessible mobility for all citizens, aligning with the European campaign ‘Mobility for all people’.
In Metrovalencia, access to underground stations will be facilitated with the validation gates open, while the vending machines will remain active. Although the validators will not work, users will be able to purchase transport tickets that will indicate the free service. In the case of the TRAM d’Alacant, both the onboard validators and those at the stations will be inactive, and the vending machines will show the free service, except for certain types of tickets such as the single, round trip or metropolitan ticket. Likewise, access to Metrobús buses and the TRAM of Castelló will be completely free throughout the day.
In addition to the free day, the Generalitat maintains other measures to support public transportation. Minors under 14 years of age can travel free of charge on autonomous services, as well as residents of municipalities affected by the floods that occurred in October. For the rest of users, a 40% reduction in the prices of passes and multi-trip tickets is offered, which represents a significant incentive for frequent use of public transportation. Young people under 31 years of age continue to benefit from 50% discounts on monthly tickets thanks to the Móbilis 30 card.
The campaign ‘Choose public transport. Move. Connect’, launched by the Valencian government, is part of a broader strategy to change mobility habits in the region. Its message invites citizens to opt for sustainable and accessible solutions, reinforcing the idea that public transport is not only a viable alternative, but also a key tool to reduce pollution and urban traffic. This initiative is framed within a joint effort with the European Union to promote inclusive mobility, where all citizens can travel easily and in respect of the environment.
