The City Council of Valencia has taken a significant step in protecting local festive heritage by calling for grants totalling 150,000 euros. This initiative, approved by the Local Government Council at the proposal of the Fiestas and Traditions department, seeks to support traditional festivals with historical roots in the city. The money will not be allocated to any celebration, but to those that maintain their own elements that define their identity. These include gunpowder, music, folklore, traditional clothing and street demonstrations. The call is open to associations, federations and non-profit entities whose purpose is to promote traditional festive activities and that are registered in the Municipal Register of Citizen Entities at the time of publication in the Official Bulletin of the Province. The grants will be allocated to activities held between January 1 and October 30, 2026. The main objective is not only to finance the organization, but to promote the recovery and valorization of elements that are part of the personality of each festival. In this sense, the call’s bases give the highest score to projects that include measures to recover traditional festive elements. Among the grantable expenses are sound and lighting, musical performances, the editing of graphic material, the production of exhibitions, the organization of conferences, parades and the rental of costumes directly related to the celebration. In addition, the capacity to disseminate festive heritage will be valued, with up to 12 points allocated to initiatives that contribute to transmitting the history and culture linked to the celebration. Councillor Mónica Gil has highlighted that this call is not limited to helping the festivals be celebrated, but that it focuses on what makes them unique: their historical and traditional value. Her message is clear: the City Council has the responsibility to accompany the work of the entities that have kept these traditions alive for generations, so that they are not lost and can continue to be transmitted from generation to generation.
