The Emergency Coordination Center has managed 774 incidents related to the heavy rains recorded in the province of Valencia, with most of the cases in the capital. The storms have mainly affected Valencia, Torrent and l’Eliana, where more than 95 liters per square meter have been recorded in less than an hour. The municipalities with the most incidents have been the city of Valencia, with a total of 416; Torrent, with 65; and l’Eliana, with 24. From Emergencies, more common incidents have been reported such as water evacuations, leaks, traffic incidents, rescues and blocked vehicles.

Intense rains have caused flooding in several areas, especially in Torrent, where more than 95 liters per square meter have been recorded in less than an hour. In the city, streets and some homes have been flooded, traffic has been difficult and fifteen people have been displaced from a fast food restaurant. Torrent’s mayor, Amparo Folgado, has described the night as ‘very complicated’ both in the municipality and in the l’Horta Sud comarca. The avenue has entered through sewers and terraces, while vehicles and pedestrians have been trapped in difficult situations.

As a preventive measure, classes and sports activities had been suspended, and parks and gardens had been closed. Civil Protection has also been monitoring flood-prone areas and preventing access to these areas. Folgado has highlighted the l’Horteta ravine as a priority point for action after the damage caused in October 2024. He has called for the cleaning and removal of debris from the ravine and has stated that this day has seen more debris than the Poio ravine. Prevention must be real on the part of the Spanish government to avoid complicated situations like the one that occurred this evening, which they hope will not happen again.

The president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has assured through social networks that he will closely monitor the evolution of the incidents and the damage caused by the rains. He has suspended the official events scheduled for Thursday morning. He has maintained contact with various mayors of the affected municipalities and with the third vice president of the Spanish government, Sara Aagesen, to understand the situation. Pérez Llorca has asked the Valencians to exercise extreme caution, follow the instructions of the Emergency services and only inform themselves through the official channels of 112 and the Generalitat’s Emergencies.
