Plans to remove the level crossing in Novelda’s La Estación neighbourhood have reached a public consultation on the land needed for the scheme. Adif has listed 23 affected plots and opened a period of fifteen working days for corrections or objections to the need to acquire or use them. The notice appeared in the official state gazette, the BOE, on Monday 7 September, with the period counted from the following day.
The case concerns the crossing at kilometre point 424/690 on the La Encina–Alacant Terminal railway. The list covers public and private property. Its 23 plot references do not mean 23 homes or 23 separate owners.
Adding up the notice’s columns gives 21,578 square metres for compulsory acquisition, 11,647 for temporary occupation and 490 for easements. The document records these as three different types of land impact. Municipal property includes Calle Ledua and Camí de Castellà, alongside land belonging to other public bodies, companies and individuals.
For La Estación, removing the crossing has long raised a wider issue: how to keep the two sides of the neighbourhood connected and preserve road access. The proposal approved by the council in November 2023 included a pedestrian footbridge with stairs and lifts, two roundabouts on the N-325 and a southern road towards Camí de Castellà. The council said at the time that the proposal could change and still needed approval from the roads authority.
The September 2026 notice details the affected land but does not reproduce the plans for that solution.
In June 2025, a separate BOE notice recorded the formalisation of a contract to bring the project into line with current regulations. It was awarded to Socotec Eng Solutions Spain for €53,450. That amount covered the technical update, not construction.
The land acquisition documents can be inspected at Novelda Town Hall, Plaza de España 1, and the central government’s provincial office in Alicante, Plaza de la Montañeta 6, during working office hours. The notice also directs readers to Adif’s Madrid offices and its transparency portal.
Written submissions must be addressed to Adif’s Subdirección de Pasos a Nivel and identify the project at kilometre point 424/690. The BOE allows electronic submission through the central government’s general electronic register or Adif’s electronic office. Including the plot reference and the disputed land impact identifies the entry concerned.
The notice gives no date for closing the crossing or starting construction. The neighbourhood still awaits those dates and confirmation of the access arrangements that will accompany the closure.
