Enguera: the archaeology museum, San Miguel and the separate castle walk

A museum that explains the surrounding hills

The Archaeological Museum occupies the former post office, built in 1929. Its collections include Iberian pottery from the Lucena hill site and Valencian Gothic ceramics from Coveta Santa. Seeing these finds in a collection is not the same as visiting the archaeological sites themselves: museum access should not be taken as permission to enter those sites.

Read San Miguel through its doorways

The church has three distinct entrances: Puerta Mayor, Puerta del Hospital and Puerta de las Moreras. The Hospital doorway belonged to the earlier church; the Moreras entrance retains a staircase with a stone balustrade. These details give an exterior visit a specific focus even when the interior is unavailable.

The castle is a separate outing

The Encomienda castle stands on a hill near the town and once belonged to the Order of Santiago. It is not a museum on a central street: the tourism office describes reaching it as a walk. Decide whether you actually want to make that ascent instead of treating it as another equivalent stop in the town centre.

For a first cultural visit, our suggestion is to prioritise the museum and keep the castle optional. If the collection is your main reason for travelling, confirm opening arrangements before setting off.
