Benichembla: town hall, riuraus and the Xaló-Gorgos riverside

The photograph was taken in Benigembla’s town hall square. The green council building with balconies, coat of arms and flags fills the foreground; the bell tower of San José Church rises on the right, with a rocky slope behind it. Neither the Xaló-Gorgos river nor Serra del Cavall Verd is shown.

The square brings together two civic landmarks

The council’s visitor information dates the town hall to 1912. San José Church stands in the same centre, although only part of its tower appears in the image. These are distinct from the Sindicat, an early twentieth-century agricultural cooperative, and from the old washhouse in the lower part of the village.

Riuraus record the raisin economy

Benigembla retains riurau arches and structures within its built-up area. These buildings sheltered Muscat grapes while they dried into raisins; some included heated drying chambers. Regional visitor information identifies the riurau beside the fountain, but that structure should not be confused with the town hall pictured here.

River and mountain walks are separate outings

Ribàs botanical park lies beside the Xaló-Gorgos. Two marked routes also start from the municipality: PR-CV 465, Sender del Badall i les Fonts de les Penyes, and PR-CV 427 towards Cocoll. They are separate propositions: a riverside visit does not establish mountain-trail conditions or define a route across Cavall Verd.
