A small bronze jug can tell you more about San Fulgencio than a panorama of its fields. Finds from El Oral studied by MARQ include objects connected with Etruscan wine: evidence that the inhabitants took part in Mediterranean exchange rather than living cut off from the sea.

Two sites with different stories

MARQ highlights an olpe, a jug for serving wine, and a fragment of bronze grater from El Oral. The grater’s interpretation remains a hypothesis: it may have been used to add cheese to wine. That distinction matters when explaining the object.

La Escuera belongs to the developed Iberian period. The council describes a settlement beside a former coastal lagoon and a building interpreted as a temple. Its pottery includes Iberian wares and Greek imports. It is not another name for El Oral: compare the objects’ origins and dates when they appear on the labels.

The collection before an unplanned trip to the sites

The Municipal Archaeological Museum holds finds from both sites. Our suggested approach is to begin with its explanations and look for which objects belonged to domestic life and which to trade. That specific question is more useful than trying to work out the function of walls without context.

The council’s museum page consulted for this guide does not provide complete operational opening hours. Before travelling, ask Tourism or Culture staff to confirm opening arrangements and, if you want to see the sites, whether accompanied visits are available. A heritage description does not by itself confirm current public access.

In the town centre you can also locate the eighteenth-century parish church. This combination keeps the outing focused on San Fulgencio’s heritage. With children interested in archaeology, choose an object and try to work out its purpose from the museum’s explanation, separating established knowledge from proposed interpretations.
