Villajoyosa’s best-known view makes more sense from outside the old quarter. The road bridge and the south bank of the Amadorio show how colourful houses cluster beside the walls and descend towards the sea. Inside, narrow streets reveal a Renaissance ensemble that amounts to more than a photogenic frontage.
Seeing the old town from both sides
Begin with the wider view across the river, then cross and explore within. Changing viewpoint helps locate defensive stretches, changes of level and the relationship between the houses and the waterfront. The beach and promenade can round off the walk, but they do not replace this reading of the urban fabric.
Two museums with different purposes
Vilamuseu is the municipal museum and safeguards the city’s archaeological and historical heritage. The Valor Chocolate Museum, by contrast, occupies premises associated with one company and uses machinery and records to explain its industrial process. They are not two branches of one institution, nor do they represent the whole local chocolate sector in the same way.
Booking, access and opening arrangements can change. Check directly with each organisation before travelling, particularly when a museum is the main reason for your visit.
What to leave for a separate outing
The Sant Josep tower and other sites extend the municipality’s Roman story but lie outside the compact old-town walk. If you add them, check current access and transport rather than assuming that they form one continuous pedestrian route.
