Valencian public healthcare offers children more than a school dental check. Paediatric teams monitor oral health during routine reviews, while public dental units provide prevention and defined treatments. A family health centre can identify the unit responsible for the child.
All children may receive an oral examination, advice on diet and hygiene, fluoride where indicated, fissure sealing on permanent teeth, extraction of baby teeth, clinically necessary cleaning, trauma care and assessment of malocclusion.
Extra coverage up to age 15
For permanent teeth, under-15s receive an annual review, fillings, pulp treatment or root-canal therapy, and care for permanent incisors and canines affected by disease, malformation or injury. The age limit and permanent-tooth condition matter: a family cannot simply obtain any private treatment and invoice the health service afterwards.
Cosmetic orthodontics, implants and other non-listed care are outside ordinary coverage. Assessment can still identify bite problems and determine whether any exceptional pathway exists. Following a recent dental injury, contact the health centre or dental unit promptly rather than waiting for the next school review.
