Alicante cuts road tax by up to 75% for new low-emission cars

Relief runs for three years and falls each year according to the official energy rating; owners must apply and prove emissions.

Generic car, key, blank technical card and descending green blocks

A newly registered electric car, or one emitting no more than 160 grams of CO₂ per kilometre, can receive Alicante road-tax relief for three years. The amount depends on the official energy-efficiency rating.

Rating A receives 75%, 50% and 30% across the three years; B receives 60%, 35% and 25%; C receives 45%, 20% and 15%.

An unproven rating is treated as category C

The technical card proves emissions. If the model is absent from the IDAE fuel and CO₂ guide, the energy label is also supplied; without a rating, category C relief applies.

The owner must be current on this tax and traffic fines. Relief is neither automatic nor extended beyond three tax years.

Registration and later years have different deadlines

The first claim is made with the registration self-assessment. Later claims are accepted until the voluntary collection period ends.

Update if the emissions ceiling, table or filing deadline changes.
