Castelló grants close relatives a 75% inheritance capital-gains tax discount

When several properties are inherited, the relief covers only the one with the lowest cadastral value; filing is due in six months unless an extension is requested.

Inheriting urban property in Castelló may trigger municipal capital-gains tax, but close relatives receive a 75% discount on the bill. Eligible heirs include descendants and adopted children, spouses, parents and adoptive parents.

Relief does not remove the duty to file. The council must first establish whether value increased and calculate the charge.

Relief does not cover every property in a multi-property estate

Where an estate includes several properties, the 75% discount applies only to the one with the lowest cadastral value. Garages and storage rooms are excluded from the comparison unless they are the only inherited assets.

This local charge is separate from the regional inheritance tax, which has different relief, deadlines and evidence.

The normal deadline is six months after death

A transfer on death must be declared within six months. The period can be extended to one year, but the extension must be requested rather than assumed.

The inheritance deed, tax notices and cadastral values should be reviewed together. Update if the ordinance, rate or multi-property rule changes.
