Large families in Alicante can save up to 90% on IBI property tax

The percentage depends on the number of children and cadastral value; applications must precede the tax year in which relief is sought.

Alicante’s large-family IBI discount ranges from 15% to 90%. The council combines the number of children on the official certificate with the cadastral value of the main home.

The 90% rate is limited to certificates with five or more children and homes valued up to €25,000. With up to three children, rates run from 65% to 15%; with four, from 80% to 30%; and with five or more, from 90% to 40%.

The bill, certificate and main home must correspond

The certificate holder must also be the IBI taxpayer, with the bill in their name. The property must be the main address on the population register and the large-family certificate must be current on the tax due date.

Relief is not automatic. It must be requested when the certificate is obtained and after every renewal, online with a digital certificate or at the General Registry.

A late application delays the saving

To apply in a given year, the request must arrive by 31 December of the previous year. Later applications take effect in the following tax period. The relief is compatible with protected-housing relief.

Update if Alicante changes the value bands, rates, deadline or evidence.
