Who can avoid prescription copayments in the Valencian Community in 2026

Most eligible patients are identified automatically, but a procedure is available to claim assistance, correct records and recover qualifying payments.

Being charged at the pharmacy does not always mean the amount is correct. During 2026, the Valencian Government is maintaining assistance that removes prescription copayments for eligible pensioners, unemployed people, children, single-parent families and people with disabilities. The health department activates the support automatically in most cases, but anyone who continues to pay can check their record, report an error and seek reimbursement for qualifying costs.

For many of the groups, the common threshold is taxable income below €18,000 a year. The 2026 calculation uses the 2024 income-tax return, adding boxes 505 and 510. This is not the same as gross salary or the final amount paid or refunded on the tax return.

Those covered include Social Security pensioners assigned copayment code TSI 002-01, and unemployed people with TSI 003 who receive unemployment benefit or allowance, or have exhausted them, provided they remain below the income limit. Children under 18 listed as beneficiaries of an insured person with TSI 003 and households holding official single-parent family status may also qualify.

For disability-related assistance, the health department covers children with a recognised disability of at least 33% and adults with a recognised disability of at least 65%, where income is below €18,000. The support covers publicly funded medicines and, for this group, funded orthoprosthetic products prescribed by the public health service and obtained from authorised providers in the Valencian Community.

Check whether the assistance is already active

Most beneficiaries do not need to submit an initial application. The regional health department identifies them using health, tax and Social Security data. Single-parent families are the clearest practical exception and must request recognition. Anyone who meets the conditions but was not added automatically may also apply.

Status can be checked at a health centre, pharmacy or orthopaedic provider, on the current-treatment report, or through the health department’s online copayment checker. Online identification is available by SMS using the SIP health-card number and date of birth, or with a digital certificate or Cl@ve.

The exemption applies to publicly funded treatment prescribed by a public-health professional and dispensed by an authorised provider in the Valencian Community. It does not make privately funded medicines free or cover products obtained outside those channels.

If the pharmacy is still charging

A patient shown with the wrong contribution rate can submit a data-discrepancy form. It is available from health centres and through the Valencian Government’s online procedure. It covers errors involving income, employment status, beneficiary status, single-parent recognition or disability level, as well as other cases where a lower contribution is believed to apply.

If qualifying expenses have already been paid, the same procedure allows a reimbursement claim. The health department requires the assistance application, the specific reimbursement form and bank-account registration where the account is not already recorded by the regional government. Documents can be submitted online or through the patient’s assigned health centre.

The 2026 application window remains open until 31 December. The administration has three months from submission to decide; if no decision arrives, the application is treated as rejected and an administrative appeal may be filed. This article should be updated when the 2027 programme is published or if the income threshold, eligible groups or checking process changes.
