If the GVA +Salut app shows no free slots with your family doctor, that does not mean you cannot get an appointment. The regional health department has told the Valencian ombudsman (Síndic de Greuges) that when a doctor’s waiting list exceeds 15 days, the app stops offering direct bookings. In that case you need to request an appointment through the “agenda de mostrador” (front-desk list): your request is logged and the health centre’s admin staff call you back with a date. This guide covers every available route and what to do when none of them works.
Four ways to book at your health centre
- GVA +Salut app (Android and iPhone, free). Lets you book, check and cancel primary care appointments and download attendance certificates.
- The regional health department’s online booking website, which uses the same calendars as the app.
- Your health centre’s phone number. It appears on your SIP health card. If you do not have it, use the centre finder in the app or call the Generalitat’s 012 information line.
- In person at the front desk. Health departments say in-person requests take priority; it is the slowest option for you, but the one least likely to be blocked.
How to log in to GVA +Salut without Cl@ve
According to the app’s user guide, updated in April 2026, there are three ways to identify yourself:
- By text message: enter your SIP number, date of birth and the card’s issue date, and you will receive a code. This only works if your mobile number is registered on your SIP record.
- By scanning your SIP card: enter your date of birth and let the camera read the card’s barcode.
- With Cl@ve, a digital certificate or an electronic ID card: the most complete option. As well as appointments, it lets you change your contact details and view your electronic health record, reports and scan images.
If the text message never arrives, the phone number on your record is probably out of date. Staff at the health centre’s admissions desk can correct it (bring your DNI or NIE), or you can change it in the app if you already log in with Cl@ve. If your card has no barcode or is damaged, you can request a new one and collect it free of charge at your health centre.
No dates in the app: ask for the “agenda de mostrador”
This is the most common problem. In a December 2025 case concerning a health centre in Santa Pola, the health department explained that app booking works, but when the waiting list exceeds 15 days it is not possible to book directly through this channel. The official alternative is to request a front-desk appointment so that the centre contacts you and arranges it.
In the app, this option appears as an appointment with the front desk or admin unit. When you request it, state the reason clearly (“no slots with my doctor in the app, I need an appointment to review my treatment”) and check your phone number is correct, because they will call you. The same list is used for tasks that do not require seeing a doctor: requesting a certificate, changing doctor, updating your SIP details or asking for a medical report.
If nobody answers the health centre’s phone
- Call first thing in the morning and avoid Mondays and days after public holidays, when demand peaks.
- Use the front-desk request in the app instead of calling repeatedly: it leaves a written record of your request.
- Go in person if your problem cannot wait weeks. Bring your SIP card or ID.
- Book with a nurse for dressings, blood pressure checks, repeat prescriptions or treatment questions: nurses usually have more availability and can refer you on.
When not to wait for an appointment
A routine appointment is not the right route for an urgent problem. If you have severe pain, a high fever that will not come down, difficulty breathing or a sudden deterioration, go to your local out-of-hours point (PAC) or A&E. In a life-threatening emergency, call 112.
How to complain if you cannot get an appointment
- Complaint to the SAIP (Patient Information and Care Service) of your health department. You can file it at the hospital or health centre, or online through the Generalitat’s e-office using the health complaints form. Include dates, attempts and channels used.
- Response time: the Generalitat says you should receive a reply within one month. If you do not, you can escalate the complaint to the General Inspectorate of Services.
- Síndic de Greuges: if the reply solves nothing, you can go to the Valencian ombudsman. It is free, and in appointment cases it usually asks the health department for specific reports on each centre. We explain the full process in our guide on how to complain when the Generalitat does not respond.
Keep screenshots of the app showing no slots and note every call (date and time). This is the evidence that carries most weight in any complaint.
Frequently asked questions
Why does GVA +Salut say there are no appointments available?
Because your doctor’s calendar is full for the period the app allows you to book. When the wait exceeds 15 days, direct booking disappears from the app and you need to use the front-desk request so the centre can give you a date.
Can I book for someone else, such as a child or an elderly relative?
Yes. The app lets you add profiles for relatives or dependants from the “Users” menu, provided you are authorised. You need to have set up a PIN, fingerprint or face recognition first.
Can I change doctor if mine never has appointments?
Yes. Valencian rules recognise free choice of family doctor, paediatrician and nurse within your health department. You request it at the front desk or through the app’s front-desk option. Bear in mind that a new doctor may have the same or a longer wait.
Do I need my physical card to see a doctor?
Not necessarily: GVA +Salut includes a virtual SIP card with a QR code. See our guide to the SIP health card for details.
