Three Valencia commuter lines reopen, but the C6 to Castelló remains suspended

The C1, C2 and C3 are running again after track inspections. The Castelló corridor remains closed, while Metrovalencia reports some signalling problems.

Three of the four lines in Valencia’s Cercanías commuter network resumed service on Friday morning after track inspections. The C2 between València, Xàtiva and Moixent reopened at 7.10am, followed by the C1 to Gandia and the C3 to Buñol at 7.42am. The C6 between València and Castelló remains suspended while a red weather warning is still in force across part of Castellón province.

The reopening does not mean a normal timetable has returned. Renfe continues to display weather warnings in its live information feed and asks passengers to take them into account before travelling. Metrovalencia has started running, but has reported isolated signalling problems. Anyone who must travel should check the live status of their train or line immediately before leaving rather than relying only on the published timetable.

Each corridor had to pass its own inspection

Renfe suspended the C1, C2, C3 and C6 from 6pm on Thursday because of the red warning. The operator said services would return only after Adif had inspected the infrastructure and confirmed that trains could run safely. That process explains the staggered reopening and why the Castelló route has not resumed alongside the other three.

Medium-distance trains between València, Alicante and Murcia have also returned. Services on the Mediterranean Corridor towards Catalonia remain vulnerable to alterations and cancellations, so a long-distance booking should not be assumed to be operating simply because a commuter line has reopened. Renfe sends changes to the contact details attached to reservations and publishes live disruption notices through its official channels.

FGV has been able to start the metropolitan network broadly as planned, although signalling faults are affecting some points. These may cause waits and adjustments during the morning. EMT buses remain an option within València, but the city council is keeping schools, parks, gardens and several municipal facilities closed to reduce travel while the emergency measures remain active.

The warning is easing around València, not everywhere

Aemet is keeping red rain warnings in force until 11.59am for northern and southern inland Castellón and the northern Valencia coast. Very high totals remain possible in those areas, including torrential bursts within a single hour. The warning level later falls along the Valencia coast, but rain and storm alerts continue into the afternoon.

That geographical difference defines Friday’s travel picture: reopening a line south of València does not make the northern corridor safe by extension. The next decisive update will be the C6 inspection and the expiry or extension of the red warning in Castellón. Until then, journeys between València, Sagunt and Castelló require a live check with Renfe; the usual timetable is not confirmation that trains are running.
